Beach Ceremony
Skaket Beach, Orleans, MA
We're planning on having the ceremony on the beach. Skaket Beach is on the bay side of the Cape, and the ties are calm and dramatic. At low tide, the beach is filled with tidal pools and streams that allow you to walk way out. There is a boardwalk that leads from the parking lot to the beach where the ceremony will be held, making it easier for guests to walk onto the beach. It will be an interfaith ceremony. My finance is Jewish and Quaker, and I'm Irish Catholic. So we're combining traditions from each faith to make the ceremony our own. We have a very good friend who will be our officiant. We wanted someone who knew us, and make it personal.
We're renting benches from our florist to have for seating on the beach, which is easier than chairs as they don't topple as easily. The aisles will be marked by starfish wands with ribbons that match our colors. At the end of the aisle, we'll have birdbath table that's covered in purple mosaics that was a shower gift. We're putting round piece of glass on top that will hold he sand ceremony pieces, the Quaich Cup and wine, and the handblown glass cup for the breaking of the glass.
The photos below are from another wedding we saw set up on the beach.

Planning the Ceremony
We are having a good friend officiate the wedding for us. He applied for a one day license that's available in Massachusetts.
I did a lot of research to put together a ceremony that blended religions and cultural traditions. We will have Irish tradition with a Quaich Cup Ceremony - I wanted a bag piper, but it was nixed by my Fiance. We're also having a Quaker Wedding Certificate, that will be on display at the reception. We opted not to have all of our guests sign it as is traditionally done. And lastly, we're ending the ceremony with the Jewish tradition of the Breaking of the Glass.
There are links available to some of the sites I used to develop the ceremony. Our officiant will tweek it with us to add his personal touch to our draft. Looking forward to it being extra special. The draft of our ceremony is below.
